It was a joy to catch up with friends on their home waters and to be reminded that life exists beyond our beloved Penobscot Bay. After crossing the Gulf of Maine and transiting the Cape Cod Canal, we joined company with friends in Marion, then made our way to Cuttyhunk, Menemsha, Vineyard Haven, Hadley’s Harbor, and Provincetown before turning back “Down East” toward Camden.
This marks our 12th season with NORA, and as our daughters enter their sophomore and senior years of high school, I can’t help but reflect on what a gift it has been to race and cruise together each summer. Each year, we grow more confident—in ourselves, in one another, and in our boat. New through-hulls may not sound glamorous, but it’s projects like these that matter most: the quiet, essential work that ensures safety and peace of mind as we continue exploring new horizons as a family.
NEWPORT BOAT SHOW
We’re heading to the Newport International Boat Show this weekend! Look for MURMUR, our full-keel Buzzards Bay 15, proudly on display by the big anchor at Bowen’s Wharf. (technically outside the ticketed show — so no show pass necessary”)
Alec will be there all day, Thursday through Sunday, ready to talk boats — whether you’re just curious about wooden boats in general or ready to discuss details of your next project; We’ve got capacity in the shop for another build, restoration, or refit this winter. If you’ve been waiting for a sign… this is it!
NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS HYPE VIDEO
When the New England Patriots ask YOUR team to be part of their season-opening hype video, you gotta say yes! The Pats video crew visited the boatyard this summer and shot some footage – check out the video watch closely for some familiar faces and scenes at Artisan. What an honor and a thrill to be involved in this project for our favorite team and to represent the spirit of New England. Click below to watch on YouTube.
RECENT PROJECTS
We recently installed a new deck on MYSTERY II, a 26’ Luder’s 16. This was a quick-turnaround that was delivered the day before we closed for August break.
WHIRLWIND II
The 26’ Gil Smith catboat WHIRLWIND II touched down this year at the WoodenBoat Show in Mystic, CT, and then made her racing debut at the Herreshoff Classic Regatta in Bristol, RI. Thanks George Bekris for these great photos!
