MAGGIE ANN
2024 Custom 33u0027 Traditional Maine Lobsterboat
Thankfully, there are still a few craftsmen—and a few owners—who believe a traditional wooden boat is the best boat there is. MAGGIE ANN, designed by Peter Kass and built in 2024 by Peter Buxton of Stonington, is just such a boat and is believed to be the most recently built traditional plank-on-frame wooden boat launched in Maine. If youu0027ve been looking for a brand-new, authentic Maine lobsterboat, youu0027ve found it.
Commissioned by an experienced Maine boater who knew exactly what he wanted, MAGGIE ANN was built without compromise. There is no attempt to make her into a yacht disguised as a workboat. She is an honest, straightforward Downeast lobsterboat with a large flush working cockpit, minimal accommodations, excellent visibility from the helm, and simple, robust systems that are easy to understand and maintain.
Whether youu0027re looking for a timeless family picnic boat or a capable platform for fishing, MAGGIE ANN is equally at home. She has the easy motion, quiet ride, and unmistakable character that have made Maineu0027s wooden lobsterboats legendary for generations.
While her exterior is rooted in tradition, MAGGIE ANN benefits from modern engineering where it matters. Power comes from a 355 HP Cummins QSB6.7 diesel with just 650 hours, turning a 24-inch propeller for an effortless 15-knot cruise and a top speed of approximately 20 knots. A modern Garmin electronics package, centered around a massive 21-inch chartplotter at the helm, provides cutting-edge navigation without compromising her traditional character.
Construction is as authentic as they come: cedar planking over steam-bent white oak frames with a white oak backbone, oiled Douglas fir decks and washboards, and bronze fasteners and hardware throughout.
At just two years old, with only 62 engine hours and virtually no wear, MAGGIE ANN is essentially a brand-new boat. She offers the rare opportunity to own a newly built traditional wooden lobsterboat without the years-long wait required to commission one today.
The construction of MAGGIE ANN was documented from lofting through launching in a fifteen-part video series produced by OffCenterHarbor.com, offering a remarkable look inside the building of a traditional Maine lobsterboat. She was also featured in Maine Boats, Homes &Harbors magazine in Stephen Rappaportu0027s article, Keeping it Simple with the Handsome Maggie-Ann, recognizing both the boat and the increasingly rare craftsmanship that created her.
Currently afloat in Port Clyde, Maine, MAGGIE ANN is available for immediate inspection and delivery.
